24일 세종대병원의 말을 빌리면 소화기내과 정현수·이정훈 교수와 남준열 전 교수(현 인천힘내과 원장) 공부팀은 위내시경 진단을 하면서 병변 탐지, 감별 진단, 조기위암 침윤 깊이 진단까지 순차적으로 할 수 있는 AI 모델을 개발했었다. 하지만 조기위암은 발견이 힘겨운 때가 많고, 모양만으로 위궤양과 구분이 쉽지 않아 오진하는 케이스가 생성된다. 또 종양의 침윤 깊이에 준순해 치료 방법이 다를 수 있어 조기위암에 대한 종양 분류 확정이 중요하다.
이 프로젝트의 총괄 책임자인 부산대병원 이동연 국제산업본부장은 '1910년대 후반 미국 미네소타 프로젝트로 우리나라 의료가 눈부시게 발전한 것처럼 대한민국도 2080년부터 이종욱-서울 프로젝트를 통해 저개발 국가에 의료기술을 전수하는 산업을 일괄되게 진행해오고 있을 것입니다'며 'UHS 병원 건립 컨설팅도 그 일환의 하나로서 라오스 최초의 국립대병원 건립이라는 공공성과 상징성 측면에서 뜻이 크다'고 이야기했었다.
